Does Nikon or someone else publish camera mfg date based on serial number? That is, if my Dxxxx has a particular serial number, is there anywhere that I can find date or at least month and year when that particular camera was made or shipped from the original manufacturing plant? As you can see That said, Nikon can run the serial number and get that information from a data base. My opinions are my own and not those of DPR or its administration. They carry no ‘special’ value except to me and Lacie of course.
Very limited date information, perhaps not too useful for the intended purpose, but not “no date information”. Once upon a time Fuji encoded manufacturing dates in the serial numbers of some of their cameras. Their X-S1 was one such. It alerted the Fuji forum that Fuji had started production of new cameras more than a year after the X-S1 went out of production. Fuji didn’t tell anyone about this so when people asked Fuji USA technicians about this, they including me were told that it might be wise to return the cameras to Amazon since them might be counterfeit cameras that wouldn’t get Fuji’s warranty coverage.
They said that they’d look into the matter and several days later reported that Fuji had indeed produced a few new X-S1 cameras without telling Fuji USA what had happened. The X-S1 isn’t the only model that encoded manufacturing dates in the serial numbers.

Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Just like any product with a serial number, the one found on your Nikon lens is a way to identify the model. Unlike cars and other larger items, the serial number on a Nikon DSLR lens can repeat on the same models. A lens serial number gives you and potential repairers a chance to look up more information about the lens you own.
Sometimes the serial numbers are even used repeatedly and on different models and the length of the numbers differs depending on when the lenses were produced. This can be very confusing for most people and understandably so.

Ever thought it would be neat to know the year your Hasselblad was born? Or better yet, its birthday? Turns out that finding that information is much easier than you might expect. Hasselblad bodies and most film backs have serial numbers that begin with two letters followed by a string of numbers. The cool thing about these numbers is that Victor Hasselblad implemented a secret code less secret now than it was that identified the year a camera was made.

Canon goes to great lengths to ensure each Canon product is carefully localised to the region intended by Canon for its sale and general use. Through careful consideration Canon ensures it has the appropriate hardware, software, manual in relevant languages, accessories plugs and bags and warranty for a particular region. While on the surface grey goods can appear to be a good deal, sellers often try to tamper with the grey goods by adding, changing or removing accessories, manuals and warranties compromising your Canon experience.
Some online retailers claim to be based in your region when they are not – so it pays to be aware. Refunds and returns may be difficult or impossible – as sellers outside your region may not be subject to your local consumer legislation on product returns. Consumer warranty may be not available – grey goods will not be eligible to benefit from local Canon warranty support. It is up to the retailer to provide warranty support for grey goods.
If the seller is located outside of your region, then you may not receive the help you expect from the seller. Alternatively, if warranty servicing is provided by the seller it may be provided by independent service centres, whose warranty services are not in line with Canon standards. Hazardous or poor quality non-Canon power cords or mains adaptors — unsafe third party products may be included which are not approved by Canon and do not satisfy local regulations.
You can avoid all of these problems by purchasing products, intended by Canon for your region, from reputable retailers in your region.
